In the regular season, the Kansas City Chiefs found themselves struggling at the wide receiver position. Constant drops, silly penalties, and absence of big plays came back to haunt the team, which posted its worst regular season in the Patrick Mahomes era.
However, the Chiefs ultimately clinched the Super Bowl victory. During the season, Rashee Rice emerged as the team’s standout wide receiver, providing a valuable target for Patrick Mahomes alongside Travis Kelce. Despite being a rookie, Rice led the team in touchdowns, ranked second in receptions and receiving yards, secured a championship title, and showed promise for a successful future.
In recent news, a Corvette and a Lamborghini SUV were involved in a six-car accident on a highway in Dallas on Saturday evening. Fortunately, only minor injuries were reported among the occupants of the other vehicles, and no severe injuries were sustained. Both the Corvette and the Lamborghini are reportedly associated with Rashee Rice as the current renter, owner, or lessor. Dashcam footage from a nearby vehicle captured the crash.
Making matters worse, according to local witnesses, five people from the Corvette and Lamborghini supposedly refused to cooperate in the wake of all these happenings and instead walked away from the scene. They walked down the highway, up an exit ramp, and into a nearby neighborhood.
Photos acquired from the scene show the five men walking away from the crash along the freeway. One of these men walking away looks a lot like Rashee. The person was wearing what appears like the exact shirt that Rashee was seen wearing in a social media post a few hours before the crash.
Rashee Rice cooperated with authorities. Nonetheless, in case he faces significant legal penalties and the Chiefs release him, it will cost him millions, maybe even tens of millions in the long term.
Rice recently finished the initial year of a 4-year, $6,495,208 contract. He’s guaranteed $3.51 million, encompassing a signing bonus, his 2023 salary, and his 2024 salary. Should he be released with cause, he would forfeit all bonuses and salaries for 2025 and 2026, totaling approximately $2.98 to $4.03 million.
However, the situation could worsen. Rice will turn 24 this month and will become a free agent after his age-26 season, a prime time for many wide receivers. Although not yet an elite receiver in his rookie year, Rice is expected to improve and could secure a lucrative multi-year deal.
Based on current salary trends, a four-year contract ranging from $40 to $60 million would place Rice among the top 25 highest-earning receivers. Missing out on this second contract would result in significant lost earnings.
Subject to how everything will shake out, Rice might still appear on a roaster in 2024, either through the Chiefs or another team. But in the worst-case scenario, he has now given up millions of dollars in possible salary.
